Rothfuss, on rewriting something one has written a very long time ago:
It’s relatively easy to take a pile of lumber and turn it into a house. But a lot of what I’ve been doing (And a lot of what it sounds like you had to do with Way of Kings) is like building a house out of a different house. A house that you built back before you knew what the hell you were really doing.
That has certainly been my experience with my current writing project (the first draft of which is from 1998). Rothfuss’s image of building a new house out of an extant house really struck me, because it is exactly like that.
